You can absolutely wear pearl earrings every day, as long as you take care of them. As pearls are naturally quite delicate, it’s important to avoid wearing them in situations where they’re likely to get scratched or damaged, during sporting activities like surfing for example. And, like many precious jewels, it’s best to minimise exposure to harsh chemicals like perfumes or body lotions that could dull their lustre.
We recommend that you get them inspected at your local Hoskings jewellers every year, or even more frequently if you’re concerned about them losing their shine or feeling loose.
Like all jewellery, choosing how to style pearl earrings comes down to your personal style. And with pearls, it’s impossible to go wrong, as they look amazing with almost any outfit and for any occasion.
The forever classic pearl studs look just as good with jeans and a white t-shirt as they do with a little black dress. If you want to make more of a rock’n’roll statement, combine pearl drop earrings with torn jeans and a leather jacket. Or wear pearl hoops with a pair of boyfriend jeans and oversized sweater for an effortless chic look. Pendant pearl earrings are the perfect summer dress beach vibe. These gorgeous gems are so versatile, you could wear any style you like, and you’ll be guaranteed to look ah-mazing!
It would probably be quicker to list when ‘not’ to wear pearl earrings, i.e. in the pool, sea or gym. And anywhere else they’re likely to be exposed to chemicals or fall out. Other than that, you can wear your pearls whenever you like!
Pearl earrings are one of the classic jewellery pieces that work across all occasions. From lunch to the Logies and work to weddings, pearls will bring chic and sophistication to any event. And we promise, each time you wear your pearl earrings, they’ll make you feel extra fabulous.
Hoskings jewellers share our tips to look after pearl earrings and keep them looking lush.
- Remove your pearl earrings before taking part in any activity where they could get damaged or lost.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, like perfumes, lotions, or fake tan, as these can damage the pearls' lustre.
- Remove your pearls before showing or going to bed.
- Don’t expose them to excessive heat or prolonged sunlight, which might cause them to fade or become discoloured.
- Wipe your pearl earrings gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove oils/grime.
- Store your earrings in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches but not in an airtight environment which might dry them out.
- Pearl strands need to be re-strung every two to three years, or once a year if you wear them weekly, to avoid breakages.
- Bring your pearl earrings into your local Hoskings store once a year to be professionally cleaned and inspected to make sure the settings and clasps are secure.
