Solitaire diamonds truly look great in all settings. The most traditional is the ‘prong’ or ‘claw’ setting. These are claw-like prongs that clasp the diamond above the band to allow it to catch the light and intensify the sparkle. There are usually 4 or 6 prongs holding the solitaire diamond in place. A variation of this is the cathedral setting, where the diamond is lifted on arches high above the band,
There’s also the ‘bezel’ setting which is where the diamond is encased in a shaped surround. This is a very secure setting that covers the bottom part of the diamond.

There are a few key considerations when it comes to buying solitaire diamond rings. Probably one of the most important is choosing the right diamond for your style and budget.
The value of a diamonds is based on the 4Cs, that’s their carat, cut, colour and clarity. The carat (ct) means the weight of the diamond and most solitaire diamonds are measured between 0.25ct to 1.5ct. The cut describes how the diamond is cut and shaped from its rough state to its finished symmetrical polished shape. Colour is measured from the most rare and desirable ‘D’ (colourless) to Z (noticeable colour). And finally, clarity refers to the number of natural blemishes (aka inclusions) in the stone.
It's also important to consider the shape of the stone. Most people think of round solitaire diamonds, but you can also have square cut, oval, pear, emerald, marquise, heart or cushion shaped diamonds. You should also think about what settings and type of metal you prefer to have your solitaire mounted in. But most importantly, choose the diamond you like at a price you feel comfortable with.
